Digital health funding is expected to nearly
double in the next three years – from $3.5 billion in 2014 to $6.5 billion by
the end of 2017, according to new research[1] by Accenture. Among
the participants in this market, Health Gorilla and its Online Healthcare Marketplace
continue to make significant progress as demand skyrockets. Both healthcare and
technology media following this space are highlighting the successes made by
Health Gorilla, including recent news. In a recent article titled, Health Gorilla Receives Funding to Grow its Digital
Healthcare Business as Market, editors covered financing led by True
Ventures saying, “Health Gorilla’s online marketplace links doctors and
clinicians with more than 9,000 diagnostic labs and more than 35,000
radiology centers, enabling online ordering and digitally delivered
results to speed up the process and reduce-based paperwork admin (such as
sending and receiving faxes).”
The article continued… “[Health
Gorilla’s] centralized, single point of entry marketplace for ordering
diagnostic tests streamlines the process for doctors by removing the need to
negotiate multiple different incumbent systems, as well as
by offering real-time access to results. It also intends to open
up patient access to its platform so individual results can be
communicated by doctors to their patients via its system — again with
a focus on time and efficiency savings. Health Gorilla says
the marketplace is HIPPA compliant and supports ONC modular certified MU2
at no extra charge. Its business model is to offer its system free to doctors
but to charge a small fee per order to the labs and centers using
its platform.”
According to Accenture, “Pressures
on the US healthcare system coupled with evolving consumer expectations have
fueled the appetite for funding of digital healthcare start-ups and have
ushered in a new era of industry innovation. A digital disruption in healthcare
is being played out, as witnessed by the emergence of new business models and
technology offerings that change social interactions, alter consumer
expectations and ultimately improve health outcomes.”
Health Gorilla is a software-centric
organization with a patient-driven vision on the future of Healthcare. Healthcare
technologies today are concentric to the doctor’s practice – not the patient.
Patients go to different providers, switch providers and have a variety of test
results and services from other referred vendors. A marketplace solves this
problem. Data is now organized in a patient concentric clinical view, initially
with the doctors and their ecosystem of vendors, and then for the patient
directly. Diagnostic vendors also benefit. They can reduce the expense of
subsidizing EMR connections, eliminate investment in portals that are not used,
and focus on their core business which is providing high quality diagnostic
tests. This is a new technology wave that Health Gorilla is addressing, ultimately
making patient records truly portable for everyone’s benefit. Improved patient
care and improved patient outcomes. A video overview of Health Gorilla’s Online
